About us

A Partnership with Africa (APA) aims to strenghten the voice and capacity of marginalised groups and people living in poverty (prioritising women). Our largest project works with Domestic Workers (DW'S) in Tanazania and Ethiopia so that their rights are respected, they benefit from developement and economic growth in their local communities.

The organisation was founded on the 18th of June 2003 as AIDS Partnership with Africa - APA with Company Registered Number 372427, was granted charity status a year later.

Adopting an integrated approach, APA promoted the networking of all social structures and community organisation, facilitating people to mobilise their resources and skills to cope the challenges of their own self development.

In the years up to 2014 the main focus was on HIVA pandemic in Ethiopia and Tanzania and there after as APA evolved and expanded into areas especially with women's and children's rights the organization underwent a name change to better represent the scope of its work. Thus the name was legally changed form AIDS Partnership with Africa to A Partnership with Africa (APA). Operating under this title, APA continues to grow and adapt to the changing needs in Africa with current programs in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

Listen to hear a message from our patron renowned actress Ruth Negga who was Oscar nominated for the movie "Loving" and who starred in the Irish drama "Love Hate".

She spoke movingly at our Christmas 2023 event about APA's work to enable Domestic Workers increase their skills and improve their quality of life in Ethiopia and Tanzania.
