Group of Domestic Workers in Chalinze, Tanzania, May 2022.

APA’s latest project to Promote Decent Work, Rights and Dignity for Domestic Workers (emPoWeRD) in Ethiopia & Tanzania is underway since September 2021. In partnership with Irish Aid, CVM and local partners, the project aims to increase the quality of life of local and migrant Domestic Workers (DWs), to promote dignity and confidence and to obtain decent work conditions for marginalised women. Domestic Workers in these and many other countries have a very high risk of discrimination and rights violations.

The organisation was incorporated on the 18th of June 2003 as AIDS Partnership with Africa - APA with Company Registered Number 372427, was granted charity status a year later.

Adopting an integrated approach, APA promoted the networking of all social structures and community organisation, facilitating people to mobilise their resources and skills to cope the challenges of their own self development.

In the years up to 2014 the main focus was on HIVA pandemic in Ethiopia and Tanzania and thereafter as APA evolved and expanded into areas especially with women's and children's rights the organization underwent a name change to better represent the scope of its work. Thus the name was legally changed form AIDS Partnership with Africa to A Partnership with Africa (APA). Operating under this title, APA continues to grow and adapt to the changing needs in Africa with current programs in Ethiopia and Tanzania.
